Every
garage benefits from a quality
cabinet system to keep valuables
cleared from the floor and safely stored. For superior storage
and organization, metal
garage cabinets from Gladiator
GarageWorks by Whirlpool Corporation provide more durability, versatility
and value than cabinets made from wood, medium-density fiberboard
(MDF) or plastic molds.
Potomac
Garage Solutions is an exclusive distributor
of Gladiator GarageWorks storage
solutions for use on the
wall
or the floor.
Wall GearBoxes are
built to hang tough and help free up valuable floor space,
while Gladiator
Modular GearBoxes and larger
Gladiator GearBoxes are made to rest on the floor. Sleek
but sturdy, these metal
cabinets feature rugged, tread-plated
steel construction to create supreme durability, and they
offer powerful magnetic locks to keep important items stored
safely. Gladiator GarageWorks complies with international
residential building codes for increased versatility.
In contrast, garage cabinets made from wood, MDF or plastic
molds show greater susceptibility to elements like water
and sun, and may not be able to sustain weight loads comparable
to what metal cabinets can hold. Although inexpensive, wood,
MDF and plastic cabinets prove less sturdy over time, and
offer less value than metal cabinets in the long run.
Wood, the most common garage cabinet material, includes all
types of wood and engineered wood products such as plywood,
veneer, natural woods, pressboard, particleboard, and MDF.
The chief drawback for wood is its extreme susceptibility
to moisture, a common problem in many garages that causes
warping and aging. Wood cabinets are limited to use in locations
that are dry and breezy, and should not be placed on floors
because of the potential proximity to damaging spilled liquids.
Pests such as termites also pose a problem for wood and wood-based
cabinets.
Similar in construction to particleboard, MDF is manufactured
by breaking down the wood fibers of soft woods and then combining
the fibers with wax and a resin binder. Panels are then formed
by applying pressure under high temperatures. A chief drawback
is the weight of MDF, which could require the cabinets to
be stored on the floor, where exposure to water and sun runoff
is more likely. Like other wood-engineered materials, MDF
also shows high susceptibility to water and moisture, which
limits its use in humid climates.
Often considered second best to metal, plastic molds withstand
moisture better than wood and MDF cabinets. However, common
garage chemicals and sunlight easily discolor many plastic
molds, and the material tends to have less load capacity.
This means that plastic mold cabinets are subject to warping
from heavy garage items, unlike sturdier metal. Plastic cabinet
doors also latch less securely, and some consider them less
attractive than sleek metal.
Metal cabinets from Gladiator GarageWorks offer several distinct
advantages over popular materials like wood, MDF and plastic
molds. Durability, versatility and good looks make metal
the superior value for a garage cabinet choice.
